We love bikes – obviously! But life isn’t all about racing. For many, there needs to be a job paying the bills while racing is a hobby reserved for weekends. There are many great careers out there, but for flexibility, pay and rewarding there are few better jobs than being a personal trainer. I know many PT’s and not only do they look great, they seem to have plenty of money for hobbies and time on their hands. But how easy is it to become a personal trainer in the UK? Let’s find out more in this months blog post.

You can do this by signing up for personal training courses at FLM training. They do a range of different fitness courses and packages which allow you to gain more qualification and save money. They do a range of fantastic courses such as kettle bell training, indoor cycling, circuit training and first aid; if you want to they also do a course on applied nutrition methods.

personal trainer courses in UKThe price of each course they do is completely different as it depends on the level of the qualification and how much training you are given. For example they do a Level 2 gym instructing which costs £499 and only lasts 5 days if you include a day for the assessment, whereas a Level 3 sports massage course costs £1,199 and lasts 7 days for practical and a day for completing the assessment. If you want to save money they do packages which allow you to gain more than one qualification and overall save money as you’re not paying for each one separately but as a bundle. They have 4 set packages but if you contact them they will design a package that is specifically for you and can involve training for the qualification that you want to receive.

They do four packages a basic PT package, an advanced package, premium package and a premium+ pt and massage package. The basic package includes a L2 qualification in gym instructing and L3 qualification in personal training. The advanced pt package includes the same as the basic but also 3xCPD qualifications. The premium+ pt has the same as the advanced but also a day of first aid and a L3 qualification in exercise referral. Lastly is the Premium+ pt and massage which has the same as the premium but also sports massage training.  The basic costs £1600 and the advanced costs £1800; the premium+ pt costs £2300 and the Premium+ pt and massage costs £3300.

Being a personal trainer means you need good people skills as you’re always dealing with clients and good organisations kills. You will need to talk to clients about setting goals and work out their fitness level. You would need to give them advice on health, nutrition and lifestyle changes, help them with their workouts and make sure to record their progress. Your hours would mostly be evenings and weekends if your client works during the week; your wage will all depend on the hours you work and whether you work for a gym or are self employed.
